I mentioned in last week’s post that I’ve been putting drawing time in to my sketchbook, starting every morning with a page in a dedicated sketchbook, drawing anything that’s inspiring me that day. As a result, I’ve been feeling more inspired to draw in the evenings and weekends too. Having that daily practice built in to my routine means I’m never going long without drawing so I never feel like I’m out of practice or need to warm up. I started an A5 sketchbook on the 11th January, while I waited for my computer to reboot after a crash.
6 weeks later that sketchbook is now full, and I’ve moved on to a new one. That’s probably the quickest I’ve ever filled a sketchbook, and the most consistent I’ve been in feeling inspired to draw. Yesterday evening I was pretty tired (from a day of tidying the house for estate agent photos - we’re selling our house!) so didn’t plan to draw, but ended up filling 7 pages of my sketchbook after flicking through a reference book I’d picked up at a charity shop earlier in the week.
The pages of my sketchbook have been filled with plants, landscapes, fruits and florals - all of my favourite things to draw. I’m drawing the same things multiple times, from different angles and in different styles. Filling a page with a single drawing or covering a 2-page spread in thumbnail drawings. I had so much fun in this sketchbook, and I can’t wait to see what the next one brings too!
Here’s a few highlights from the last 6 weeks…
